How and When to Report Child Abuse/Neglect

In New Jersey, any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or acts of abuse should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR). If the child is in immediate danger, call
911 as well as     1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-0652-2873). A concerned caller does not need proof to report an allegation of child abuse and can make the report anonymously.

Did You Know?

Some inspiring statistics emerged as judges rated the following statements as “strongly agree”:

  • A child is abused every 47 seconds in America.
  • A U.S. Department of Justice study found that abused and neglected children are 59% more likely to become juvenile delinquents, 28% more likely to be arrested as adults and 30% more likely to become violent criminals.
  •  Once a youth ages out of the child welfare system without having found a permanent home, 1 in 4 becomes homeless and are at a much higher risk of poverty, victimization and criminal involvement, illness, early childbearing, and low educational attainment.

At CASA, we advocate for children for whom abuse or neglect has been substantiated. We strive to move them into permanent families and homes to help them live happier, safer lives and help end the cycle of abuse and neglect for generations to come.
