Volunteer with foster kids in Northern NJ

At Bergen County CASA, our child Advocates volunteer to help foster kids from throughout Northern NJ.

Our foster kids come from towns located throughout the county such as Hackensack, Fort Lee, Garfield, Lodi, and beyond. We offer child advocate volunteer opportunities for qualified, responsible, adults.

Many volunteers become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) while others help behind the scenes in administrative and other support capacities to postively impact our foster kids. There can be no more valuable work than helping foster children in our Northern NJ locale. Foster children are the most vulnerable and isolated members of our society.  They need people to be there for them during this difficult time in their lives. They need people they can rely upon to volunteer with foster kids from Northern NJ.

While volunteering with foster kids in Northern NJ is hard work, it is also extremely gratifying. We have children from birth to age 21 years. Every age has different needs. Our young children need someone to stick up for them and be their voice. Older children have more baggage from the trauma and abuse they have experienced, and they are often suffering from Trauma which can be exhibited in the form of difficult behaviors. They are more likely to be moved from foster home to foster home and eventually they age out of the system and at that time need to be completely self-sufficient.

This requires extensive pre-planning for our volunteers to ensure teens aging out of the system have a place to live and a job/way of paying for it. Especially in northern NJ, where it is very expensive and hard to find rental accommodation.

You can see how valuable it is to volunteer with foster kids in Northern NJ, but you also need to remember that they will be unlikely to know all that you are doing for them or to thank you for the hard volunteer work that you will be doing.
