How I Became a Permanent Fixture at Bergen CASA (Without Even Trying)

About six years ago, I thought I was finally ready to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). I enrolled in the training, full of enthusiasm—but I quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. I had just retired and wasn’t ready to take on another long-term commitment.

Thanks to my prior experience as President of a Board of Trustees, I was invited to join the Bergen CASA Board instead. I spent two fulfilling years there, contributing in meaningful ways. But my real journey with Bergen CASA began a little over five years ago when we decided it was time to reinvent the public website.

Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Lucy, Lauren, and many others to raise awareness and donations through the site. And I absolutely love it! Web design has been a passion of mine for over 30 years—but doing it for our Advocates and the children they support makes it even more meaningful.

So, the funny part? I passed on a two-year CASA commitment—and somehow ended up becoming a permanent part of the Bergen CASA family. Too funny for words!
