Bergen CASA Advocate 4th Quarter Newsletter
Know the facts & be part of the solution
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Join us for an interactive and informative zoom workshop given by Alternatives to Domestic Violence on October 28, 2021 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

Alternatives to Domestic Violence (ADV), is a division of the Bergen County Department of Human Services. ADV is a domestic violence intervention and prevention program committed to providing services to all parties involved in a violent relationship. The strong belief underpinning ADV’s work is that violence is a learned behavior which can be stopped.
Services include a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, counseling, legal advocacy, and referrals.
ADV also provides education to raise awareness of the problem of domestic violence in our community, with the goal of prevention through education.
With the goal of enhancing CASA’s understanding and ability to advocate on cases entailing domestic violence, this workshop will offer a discussion of the complex dynamics of abusive relationships. We will examine and dispel the common misconceptions regarding intimate partner violence and discuss the differences between appropriate and inappropriate strategies of intervention and prevention.
We will also discuss the NJ Prevention of Domestic Violence Act to provide an overview of legal remedies, as well as learn what constitutes abuse according to New Jersey law.
