So, What Does CASA Stand For?

When I first heard about CASA, I thought, “Okay, another acronym… but what does it actually mean?”

CASA stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates. Sounds pretty official, right? But here’s the part that really matters: CASA volunteers are trained community members who step in to speak up for children in foster care who’ve experienced abuse or neglect.

Through Bergen CASA, these volunteers meet with kids, check in with the adults in their lives, and make sure the court hears what the child needs most. Their goal? To help kids find safe, stable, and permanent homes.

To me, CASA isn’t just an acronym—it’s about commitment, compassion, and change. Volunteers commit to a child’s case, show compassion by listening and supporting, and help create real change in a child’s future.

So next time you hear “CASA,” don’t just think acronym. Think hope.
