CASA programs welcomed a visit from Senate President Stephen Sweeney on July 6th at the offices of CASA of New Jersey.  Senate President Sweeney has been among the most committed voices in support of CASA’s work on behalf of abused and neglected children.  He has long identified CASA services as crucial to these children and the courts and child welfare systems that seek to protect them.  We are incredibly grateful to have the Senate President as a champion.

That being said, both the Senate President and CASA of NJ staff acknowledged that everyone in the Legislature and the Administration has been incredibly supportive of CASA and the work of our volunteers.  CASA and the children we serve have consistently benefitted from strong bi-partisan, bi-cameral support as well as an Administration that recognizes the value of CASA in a child’s life.

We would like to thank the Senate President and the entire legislature for supporting restoration of CASA funding to $2M in the FY17 State Budget.  We also want to take this opportunity to thank Governor Christie and the Administration for keeping that funding in the State Budget that was signed last week.
We are hopeful that there will be a quick resolution of the issues which lead to the restored funding currently being held in reserve.

Thanks to everyone who attended Bergen CASA's Volunteer Appreciation Open House on June 14th at Theresa's house. The staff and Theresa's husband prepared all of the food and sangria! Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with fellow volunteers, staff and Board members.

Bergen County CASA has been accepted to a wonderful program that is being offered by bergenPAC (Bergen Performing Arts Center) in Englewood.  The Arts Access Program is an initiative developed by bergenPAC to provide free tickets to organizations who serve individuals who would otherwise be unable to experience the live performing arts.  We hope the Arts Access Program will provide yet another source of enrichment for our CASA kids. Thank you begenPAC for making this possible for our children!

againg out 2015

Through the collaborative efforts of CASA, the Family Court and the Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCP&P) here in Bergen County, foster youth ages 14-21 attended the “Embracing Independence” conference in Mahwah on July 10th. This annual event gives these young men and women an opportunity to learn about their rights and the services available to them as they transition to adulthood. The day included several educational and interactive presentations, a vendor fair and lots of raffle prizes and giveaways. A special thank you to ShopRite who provided lunch to all of the attendees!
